The Royal Family is growing! With the news that Prince William and Princess Kate will be expecting baby number three, all eyes will be on the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge for the next nine months. The royal couple are already parents to 4-year-old Prince George and 2-year-old Princess Charlotte. While we don't know whether the newest baby will be a prince or princess (I going to hold my prediction that it's a girl,) we can always look for clues from the Royal Family names of the past to help us guess.

There are so many names that they could potentially choose for Royal Baby #3 and there is no doubt that everyone will be trying their hardest to be the one that chooses the name correctly. Based on their past name choices for their daughter and son, there is no doubt that the couple will most likely choose a family name that will classify as both classic and trendy. Let's take a look at some names that might be on the table for the Duke and Duchess as well as what they might have looked into when naming Charlotte and George.

Girls:

Beatrice: We know how much the Royal Couple loves to use family names, they might go for something more traditional, like the name Beatrice. As the granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Beatrice is the oldest daughter of Prince Andrew, the Duke of York. Sophie: This is a more modern variation of Sophia, this name is quite popular all over the world and does reign at the top of the baby names list for many countries. A name that we hear quite often, Sophie is Greek and means “wisdom.” The Contest of Wessex, Sophie, is married to Prince Edward, Queen Elizabeth II's youngest son. Given the popularity of the name and the history that it has with the Royal Family, I think this is a front runner if the Royal Baby happens to be a girl.
Charlotte: The daughter of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William and Catherine. Charlotte is the Queen's great-granddaughter. While Charlotte has been at the top of the most popular baby names list for the past few years, it really skyrocketed when Princess Charlotte was born. Charlotte is a family name for Catherine as it is her Aunt Pippa's middle name.
Elizabeth: The Queen herself, since 1952. She is known as Queen Elizabeth II as her mother was also Queen Elizabeth. Elizabeth also happens to be the middle name that Prince William and Princess Kate gave to Charlotte. And Charlotte shares the middle name with her mother, Catherine.
Catherine: The Duchess of Cambridge who also goes by the name of Kate. Catherine married Prince William at Westminster Abbey in April 2011. While Catherine was not born into the Royal Family, the name does have quite a history with the English monarchs with many past Queens with the name.
Diana: A name that means 'bright sky' or ‘daylight,' Diana The Princess of Wales was the first wife of Prince Charles, who is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II. While Diana is the name of Prince William's mother, it's also the middle name given to Princess Charlotte, perhaps to honor his late mother.
Camilla: Another name that is seen in the top 500 of baby names, Camilla could possibly be used as a middle name for the upcoming Royal Baby. The Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla is the wife of Prince Charles, the oldest son of Queen Elizabeth II.
Birgitte: While I don't suspect that this will be on the top of the couple's list for a first name choice, I do think that it has potential for the middle name. Birgitte is a Norwegian variation of the name Bridget. Birgitte is the Duchess of Gloucester, and cousin-in-law to the Queen.

Boys:

Charles: This name could easily be the number one choice as a middle name for the Royal Baby if it happens to be a boy. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have not chosen an immediate family member's name as a first name, but have chosen them for middle name (like Diana and Elizabeth with Charlotte.) While they didn't give this name to George, I think that's what makes this name a shoe-in for the middle name for the new baby. The Prince of Wales is the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II. The traditional name has always been popular and continues to remain in the top 100 baby names list.
William: “A courageous protector” and “a man of will”, is the meaning behind this name. The Duke of Cambridge is the eldest son of Prince Charles. Another classic name, William remained in the top five most popular baby names just last year.
Harry: Little known fact that ‘Harry' is indeed his nickname, Prince Harry is actually named Prince Henry of Wales and is the second son of Prince Charles. Although this name is in the top 1000 of baby names, it's a nickname and not the formal family name, I don't foresee it being used by the couple for their name choice.
Henry: This could easily be a name that the Royal Couple chooses for the first name for the baby. It's a family name and was in the top 50 list of most popular baby names in 2016, yet it's a name that is formally given to Prince Harry. Because it's not the name that Prince Harry goes by, I think the Prince and Princess are more likely to choose this for the emotional value and the family history.
George: A name used quite often in the Royal Family, George is an ancient Greek word that means “farmer.” Prince George is the oldest son of Prince William and Princess Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Even give the family history of the name, George was quite popular at the time of Prince George's birth and was in the top 20 baby names.
Philip: The Duke of Edinburgh, is the husband of Queen Elizabeth II. Philip is a traditional name that means “lover of horses.” It's not incredibly popular or on the top of the baby name charts, this is still a very classic name with great meaning to the family.
Andrew: A name that won't likely be chosen for the first name because The Duke of York is the second son of Queen Elizabeth II, and is an immediate family member to the Prince and Princess, this is a great classic name for the middle name. The name meaning “strong and manly” has been in the top 100 most popular baby names for many years.
Edward: Another unlikely choice for first name, although they could surprise us with this one. Edward is a name that has been a classic throughout history for English Kings and Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex, is the youngest son of Queen Elizabeth II. It's not at the top of the chart, but Edward is still a very popular baby name.
Richard: A strong name that means “brave power” and “powerful leader.” Duke of Gloucester, Prince Richard is the cousin of Queen Elizabeth II. Richard was quite popular in the early and mid 1900s and was even the name of three Kings of England. This is another great choice for the Royal Couple.
Michael: Michael could be at the top of the list for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Michael continues to be a classic boys name that will never go out of style. It often ranks in the top 10 most popular baby names. Prince Michael of Kent is another cousin of Queen Elizabeth II.
