How to Register for Diapers

How to Register for Diapers

Diapers are a very popular baby registry item because every family needs them. But registering for diapers is really hard because infants quickly grow into different sized diapers. On top of that, babies go through a lot of diapers, up to 10 a day in the early weeks, so you could use a lot of help stocking up on diapers for your first few months.

Diaper sizes are based on the weight, not the age, of the baby. Here's a look at diaper sizes for Pampers Swaddlers:

  • Preemie: Up to 6 lbs
  • Newborn: Up to 10 lbs
  • Size 1: 8 - 14 lbs
  • Size 2: 12 - 18 lbs
  • Size 3: 16 - 28 lbs
  • Size 4: 22 - 37 lbs

But how do you figure out what size of diapers to register for and how many diapers to register for you? You don't exactly, but here are some helpful benchmarks.

Baby boys in the 50th percentile will be 10 lbs around four weeks old, and can graduate to Size 1 diapers. They will grow to 14 lbs between three and four months and will then be ready for Size 2.

Baby girls in the 50th percentile will be 10 lbs around six weeks old, and grow out of Newborn diapers. They will grow to 14 lbs between four and five months to be ready for Size 2.

Luckily there is some overlap in the weight sizing of diapers, so you don't have to calculate the size switch down to the day or the week.

Pampers makes it super easy to add exactly the diapers you need to your baby registry. To be covered through the first four to six months, add these diaper sizes to your registry:

How Many Diapers Do I Need?

  • 2 boxes of Newborn Size
  • 4 - 6 boxes of Size 1
  • 2 boxes of Size 2

Diaper boxes tend to be packs of two packages of diapers that contain between 100 to 216 diapers. They are less expensive than individual packages of a few dozen diapers that you'll go through very quickly.

If you don't have the storage space for 10 boxes of diapers, register for gift cards to your favorite retailer that carries Pampers Swaddlers.

There are also some fun ways to encourage your friends to bring diapers to your baby shower, too.
